About Takoma Baseball Camp

Takoma SportsCamps provides a full-day of baseball for boys and girls ages 6 1/2 to 14. There’s lots of practice, lots of playing time and lots of fun so kids have a great time and raise their skills considerably.

In the morning players rotate through our skills stations at Lee Jordan Field. They work on a different fundamental at each station, instructed by our coaches. Practice and skill-building contests are built into each station.

Afternoons are devoted to games. Most games are coach-pitched so there's lots of hitting and fielding action. After "spring training" on Monday when we create teams and balance them, teams play in a week-long tournament. During these games players get to try new positions as well as practice the skills they learned in the morning.

Takoma Baseball Camp was founded in 1997 as a program of Takoma Park Babe Ruth League for kids who wanted to play more baseball and improve their skills. Camp directors Sue Immerman and Louis Hoelman have been there since the beginning. Since the early days of camp, they have focused on operating high-quality camps, affordable camps. This year they are forming a non-profit, Takoma Community Youth Sports and Leadership Training, Inc, to insure that the camp and its scholarship program can remain strong well into the future. Takoma SportsCamps provides a full-day of summer fun and skills instruction to boys and girls. The Camps grew out of the success of Takoma Park Babe Ruth Baseball Camp, a local favorite since its inception in 1997. From the beginning Takoma Baseball Camp thrived but only a few intrepid girls attended the camp so directors Sue Immerman and Louis Hoelman started up Takoma Softball Camp for girls who wanted to play and learn more softball. Takoma Basketball Camp was launched in response to the requests of parents who asked for more summer sports programming in the close-in Takoma Park/Silver Spring area.

Daily schedule

Mornings include warm-ups, skills stations and games. After lunch and videos, campers and staff challenge each other with sports trivia or "Stump the Coach". Afternoon games are part of a  week-long tournament. Every player competes in each event of Friday's Olympics as well as Tournament playoff games. In case of inclement weather, games and skills stations will be in the gym.
